Anime girls do live-streaming things. Dubbed the “The Great YouTube Takeover,” Virtual YouTubers, or VTubers, have exploded in popularity over the past year and going into this year. This talk will present the ways that the concept of VTubing is rooted in innovation and creativity, both for these content creators and the VTuber community, as well as how VTubers have brought entertainment and creativity to our own lives. ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Matthew Marcelo is the Councilor of Revenue at Toushin and the main developer of the side project @GoodVTuberSubs, a Twitter-based project with over 700 followers. He is also a freelance developer and designer for several Ateneo organizations and creates many personal web and media projects under the moniker “Madekuji-san”. His favorite VTuber is Kiryu Coco.

Plastic robot toys or socio-political commentary? Gundam has become a mainstay cornerstone in Japanese pop-culture since 1979, with many diehard fans spanning different generations and countries. Beyond the timeless mecha designs and continuously evolving industry of Gundam model kits; Yoshiyuki Tomino (screenwriter of Mobile Suit Gundam), aimed to reinvent the robot anime genre and to send a contemporary anti-war message through his original canon: the Universal Century.

Gelo Venturina is a first-year AB DS student at Ateneo de Manila University, former volunteer history teacher, and model kit enthusiast. When he’s not curating memes on Facebook and Instagram, he pursues the mastery of his craft through his passion for creating. His favorite Gundam series is Mobile Suit Gundam: Thunderbolt.

Create Your Own Virtual Singer: Overview of UTAU

Beyond Vocaloid, we live in an era populated with vocal synths like CeVIO and Synthesizer V. But what if you can't afford to buy them, or if the languages you want aren't available? Enter UTAU, a free vocal synth that allows anyone to develop a digital singer. This workshop will go over how to use Toushin's official UTAU voicebanks, as well as the process of recording and configuring your own samples for UTAU.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Mark Beltran is a Vocaloid producer by the name of DystoP who has been using singing synthesis for almost 10 years. He is the administrator of St. Defoko's School of UTAU, a Discord server for supporting new UTAU users and developing creative skills. He is also the Language Director for Ateneo Hinomoto.

Isekai may have boomed just recently, but the genre itself might have emerged under the radar of many veteran anime fans. In this talk, the speaker will whisk us all away to the wonderful timeline from the birth of isekai and its many forms to what it became today. This is is a brief history of the anime genre that will take you to another world.

Miguel Bandelaria has been a fan of isekai anime since 2014, before the isekai boom, as well as being a fan of anime ever since first grade. He is also Toushin’s resident trivia master, after winning the first Toushin Quiz Show in 2020. Also makes remixes and other content, featuring our own Tou-chan! Well, you're in luck: we will be talking about the cultural and core differences as well as similarities that K-pop and J-pop idols have. We’ll also be watching said idols perform to analyze them and compare.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Aaron Maraña has been a true passionate idol fan since 2016. He is a big fan of a few J-pop groups like AKB48 and all their sub-units, as well as the IDOLM@STER franchise and the Love Live! franchise. He loves idols very much and would like to share them with anyone who is interested. Oh, in case you're wondering who his favorite idols are, he will share them in the talk, so keep an eye out! He’s also an aspiring animator in college.

Hands-on 3D Anime Modelling Workshop with VRoid Studio

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
The popularity of personalized 3D anime models used for VTubing and VRChat is resounding. From a pile of vertexes comes forth a new being into the virtual worlds. This workshop will teach you how to create a 3D anime humanoid model from reference utilizing VRoid Studio to make your own model that can be used for VTubing, VRChat, MMD, and more. You’ll gain exposure to the basics of 3D models including rigging, textures, 3D modelling, expressions, and finally exporting the final model ready to be used. Beginners are welcome!
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Jebelle Marie Pasco is a Freelance 3D Artist and Graphic Designer at Toushin, crafting various 3D models of anime characters, including Toushin’s own mascots. She has worked with several VTubers to craft their 3D models with excellent quality. Sometimes also works with software like MMD to make music videos with 3D models.
